When To Replace ATV Parts
Keeping up with ATV maintenance can be a real hassle. On top of remembering to clean and care for various parts and equipment, you also need to remember when to refresh or replace certain components. While we can’t write up an exact maintenance schedule for you and your model, below we’ve listed a few important parts you’ll need to keep a close eye on to ensure your ATV stays in top condition.
Your Tires
While ATV tires will typically last for at least 5 years or longer, if you’re an avid rider or often travel grueling terrain, you may need to replace your set a bit sooner. Every 3 to 6 months or so, be sure to check that the tread of your tires hasn’t fallen below 2 centimeters and that there aren’t any signs of cracking, damage, or excessive wear that would require you to have to immediately replace your tires.
Your Oil
Unlike your tires, your ATV's oil and oil filter will need to be changed according to a timetable. While you do still want to check your oil regularly to ensure it’s not low and doesn’t contain any debris or foreign objects, on average you’ll need to change your oil every 200 hours, six months, or 2,000 miles.
Spark Plugs
It’s fairly easy to tell when a spark plug has gone bad and needs replacing. Not only will your ATV misfire, but it may not start up at all because of a single bad plug. To avoid a breakdown, be sure your spark plugs are replaced after every 100 hours of use.
